Student Loan tax offset?

I review online, which we contingency embrace 60 days notice which your Department of Education Loan will be offset, does any one know this for sure>? we practical by mail for the forbearance, as well as suspicion which we was okay, though the Loan website says it was sent to Department of Education Debt Collection. I’ve emailed the tyro loan people as well as called the book series (and it does contend there’s an offset). This being Sunday, not most else we can do though my taxation reinstate was ostensible to be mailed to me upon the 19th. I’m ju8st so upset, we wouldn’t have filed nonetheless if we had well known it was in default:(
p.s. is it probable to interest it if they DO take my refund? due to mercantile hardship? If any one has any advice, I’d SO conclude it. we am out of work as well as this income would be the lifesaver……..
thanks for the answer…not what we longed for to hear, though we will have certain to transparent this up so it doesn’t occur again!
*** we have filed in Aug before, as well as perceived my refund. As prolonged as we do not owe anything, we can record late, if we have the reinstate entrance to we we contingency record inside of 3 years

    Suggestions:
  1. If the Treasury Department says there is an offset, you can believe it.

Federal law requires the Department to give you prior notice of the proposed offset and an opportunity to review loan/grant records, to demonstrate why the loan/grant is not in default or is not enforceable, and to avoid offset by making arrangements to repay the loan/grant. Notices are sent to you using the best address available to the Department, from all legally available resources, including the most recent address used by you in your most recent federal tax return. However, if you have moved and either didn’t file a change of address or your change of address has expired at the Post Office, that is where their obligation ends.

I’m really sorry and I know it’s too late for this year, but when you file a forbearance, you should follow up to make sure that everything is ok before you file your tax return.

  2. oops! Not filing you would be in even more debt and problems. You must file your tax returns each year and timely.
You are upset because you chose not to pay a bill you know you had, and not IRS will offset your refund. a refund you could have prevented if you had less withheld from your pay check. Visit IRS website use the withholding calculator and make changes to your W4 so you won’t have so much withheld that you will be due a refund or owe.
At least your refund will be offset to your debt and you you will owe that much less. You made the debt so pay it.
Good luck! Always file your taxes if you don’t then IRS could and you will owe and you don’t want to owe IRS.
